Day 1 : Arrival to Reserva Amazonica, Trail Walk & Twilight River Excursion

  • Upon arrival to Puerto Maldonado, you will be met by a representative who will take you to the Inkaterra Butterfly House, a garden of Eden for over 3,800 exotic butterfly species. Here you’ll enjoy a guided tour.
  • You will also have a chance to pack your bags for your Amazon tour expeditions. Luggage weight on boats is limited so only take necessary items for the length of your stay. The rest of your belongings will be kept safe at the Inkaterra office.
  • You will then take the 45-minute boat ride to the Hacienda Concepcion lodge where you will be welcomed with a short orientation and security briefing. Settle in your comfortable jungle cabin and enjoy a delicious lunch.
  • In the afternoon, you will head out on your first Amazon tour with a guided walk along the elaborate trail system of the reserve. Your naturalist guide will help you spot exotic flora and fauna, and will teach you about local medicinal plants, animal species, and the extraordinary rainforest ecosystems.
  • You will return to the lodge to rest and enjoy refreshments before taking a guided boat ride along the Madre de Dios River. As dusk begins to fall and the forest comes to life, you may spot capybaras, caimans, and other exciting species.
  • Enjoy a relaxing dinner and evening at the lodge and prepare for the next day’s adventures.

Day 2 : Sandoval Lake, Tambopata Reserve Tour & Canopy Walk

  • After an early breakfast at the lodge, you will take a short boat ride to the magnificent Sandoval Lake, located in the spectacular Tambopata National Reserve, where you will hike along the meandering trails. Admire this placid oxbow lake and its varied inhabitants, including colorful macaws, red howler monkeys, anacondas, and turtles.
  • After lunch back at the lodge, your next Amazon tour will take you on the Inkaterra Canopy Walk, where you will learn how the walkway was built and the research that it has facilitated. You will climb the tower to the walkway and follow a series of secure hanging bridges that allow you to walk along the treetops. From this unique viewpoint you will see toucans, woodpeckers, and many other striking Amazon birds. After you descend from the canopy, you’ll enjoy a 30-minute Anaconda Walk along a 655-foot (200-meter) wooden bridge over the Aguajales swamps.
  • After dinner at the lodge, enjoy a quiet evening sipping a cocktail while watching a nature presentation in the Eco-Media Center.
