The main gateway to the exotic Peruvian Amazon, Puerto Maldonado is located deep in the heart of the lush Madre de Dios region. Full of wild forests, sinuous rivers, and oxbow lakes Puerto Maldonado holds world records in biodiversity for its hundreds of species of ants, butterflies, birds, and other animals. Formerly a center for rubber, wood, gold, and petroleum trade, Puerto Maldonado now thrives on eco-tourism and has a great infrastructure that allows travelers to visit this pristine rainforest.

Operated by Rainforest Expeditions and jointly owned by the Ese-Eja local community, the Posada Amazonas lodge is situated within the community’s private reserve in the heart of the lush Tambopata National Reserve. The lodge is accessible by a 2-hour boat ride from Puerto Maldonado. Opened in 1998, Posada Amazonas is dedicated to preserving the reserve’s natural habitat and promoting responsible eco-tourism in the region. The lodge offers comprehensive 3-day and 4-day itineraries to get you acquainted with the many treasures of the Amazon.

You’ll climb the staircase up to the top to enjoy spectacular views of the rainforest. From here, you can spot toucans, parrots, and macaws flying through the forest.
